Introduction:

Recently, I came across a claim on social media that drinking lemon water every morning can cure cancer. As a skeptical individual, I immediately questioned the validity of this statement.

Step 1: Identifying the claim

This claim caught my attention because it seemed to be too good to be true. I also believe that more people would be talking about this “cure” if it really was valid.

Step 2: Recognizing red flags

One thing that really stood out to be was the nature of this claim. Claims use words like “cure” without any qualifiers are often dramatic and/or misleading.

Step 3: Conducting quick searches

Quickly using the lateral reading strategy, which is when you read from tab to tab to help us confirm whether or not this claim is misinformation or true. Therefore, I am googling “lemon water cancer cure” to see what information is available.

Step 4: Evaluate sources

Coming across several articles and researches from the American Cancer Society and National Cancer Institute. These sources quickly debunked the idea of lemon water because these articles really emphasized the importance of evidence-based treatments for cancer.

Step 5: Consult expert opinions

I also looked for expert opinions on this topic. Eventually, I found an article written by a clinical dietitian that explains the lack of evidence that claims drinking lemon water can cure cancer.

Step 6: Cross-check information

To further verify the claim, I cross-checked the information with other sources such as medical journals and research studies. Additionally, I found no credible sources to support this claim.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, after conducting a thorough step by step process to evaluate whether or not “drinking lemon water can cure cancer” was true or not. Overall, I found it to be a false claim. It is extremely important to critically evaluate information you find on social media. Like what the youtube video says, being able to identify misinformation is now such an important twenty first century skill to have.
